Lawrence Nathan Soria, 65, of Rochelle Park, NJ, passed away on February 20, 2023 after a
tragic accident days earlier.
Larry was born on September 9, 1957 to Claire and Gerard Soria in Cleveland, OH. Their family
later moved to Oakland, New Jersey where Larry graduated from Indian Hills High School in
1975. He went on to study Math at Rutgers University in New Brunswick and was a member of
the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity. After graduating in 1979, he earned his teaching certificate and
earned his CPA at William Paterson University. He was an accountant for 40 years and most
recently worked as Controller at Saddleback Realty.
Larry met his future wife Melinda at the Tinsley dorms and the Hillel House at Rutgers, and they
went on to have 3 children: Joseph (1983), Jessica (1985) and Jacqueline (1993).
He had many passions from sports to the arts. He played in many sports groups: tennis groups
including Team Tennis in Oakland, B'nai Brith softball mainly on the "Mishpucha" and Elite
teams, and pick-up basketball/football and poker with friends for many years.
Larry always enjoyed writing and creative projects whether it was watching local live music and
his daughter Jacqueline perform in plays. Recently, he took part in two podcasts - one about the
experiences of his mother Claire during the holocaust called to Born To Remember -
https://www.borntorememberpodcast.com/ created by his son Joe and one with his college
friend Greg Sedlacek called The Know Nothing Party - https://sites.libsyn.com/403682/site.
Larry was also a long time volunteer in the Jewish community. He was the former president and
treasurer of B'nai Brith Tri-State Region, as well as former treasurer of the Fair Lawn Jewish
Community Council.
Larry was predeceased by his wife Melinda and father Gerard. He is survived by Claire
(mother), Robert (brother), Rita Cerna (sister), his three children, Joseph, Jessica, and
Jacqueline, and his 3 grandchildren, Violet, Oliver, and Mila Korsunsky.
Services will be held at Robert Schoem's Menorah Chapel on Friday, February 24 at 11:30am.
Donations can be made in his memory to B'nai B'rith (https://www.bnaibrith.org), Rutgers Hillel
(https://rutgershillel.org), or Bergen Volunteers (https://www.bergenvolunteers.org).

I just read about Larry´s passing in the Jewish Standard. Larry was a fierce competitor every Sunday morning in the B´nai B´rith softball league in Fair Lawn. I will always remember his warm smile and laugh. My sincere condolences to the family.

I will miss Larry's humanity. His relationships with people were what defined him. He attached such high importance to them, and they never took a backseat to anything else. I will always see and feel him in the present tense. When I think about him, it is as though he is right in front of me, in real time, never a memory...my good friend, college mate, and forever my (fraternity) big brother.
