Lawrence Paul Swensen (Larry)
1940 - 2023
With joy and sadness, we announce the death of our husband and father Lawrence Paul Swensen. He passed away on September 19, 2023, peacefully at home in West Valley City, Utah at the age of 83 after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease and complications that followed.
Born July 27, 1940, in Iona, Idaho to Chris and Lillian Swensen, he was the youngest of 8 children.
Larry graduated from Bonneville High School in 1958, attended Ricks College and BYU, then served an LDS mission starting in Germany and finishing in the Western States Mission.
After his mission, he met Vicki Kay and they were married on October 26, 1962, in the Idaho Falls LDS temple for time and all eternity. They were blessed with 5 children: Daren 1963, Barry 1965, Lara 1968, Polly 1972, and Katrina 1979. His greatest joy was being a dad and grandpa.
They moved to Hunter in 1967 and this is where they raised their family.
Larry was a man of many talents. He had projects going at all times ranging from carpentry, which he learned from helping his dad, to piecing quilts which he learned from his mom. He was creative in all his talents and could easily bring his visions to reality. He passed several of these talents on to his children.
Larry started a 40-year career with the airlines in 1962. He worked for West Coast, Air West, Hughes Air West, Republic, and Northwest Airlines without ever changing offices. The best part of working for the airlines was the benefit of being able to travel with his family.
After his retirement, he and Vicki enjoyed spending the winters in Canyon Cove (St George, Utah) where they made many friends.
Larry was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved serving the Lord and those around him, diligently serving in various callings over the years.
Larry is survived by his wife Vicki, children: Daren, Barry, Lara (Mark) Tilt, Polly (Bryan) Butterfield, 4 grandchildren: Daniel, Jakob, Mason, Nicole, and 2 great grandchildren: Emily and Kennedy.
Preceded in death by his daughter Katrina, parents: Chris and Lillian, 3 brothers and 4 sisters: Virginia, Helen, Keith, Ray, Beth, Carol, and Robert.
