LCpl. Shawn Hiram Mayers Vet.

LCpl. Shawn Hiram Mayers, Vet. USMC, age 52, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2024 here in Del Rio. He was born on September 3, 1971.
In 1989, Veteran Mayers enlisted into the United States Marine Corps in Dallas, Texas. He served his country proudly until 1991 when he was medically discharged, achieving the rank of Lance Corporal.
Apart from his service, he had a passion for painting, literature, and economics, finding fulfillment in the study of these subjects. He had a deep passion for jazz music, finding solace and inspiration in its melodies. He was a lifelong learner, always eager to explore new subjects and expand his horizons. He was also known as a friend to the community of Del Rio, where he made meaningful connections and contributions. He is survived by his loving daughter, Vanessa Mayers, of San Antonio, Texas.
Funeral arrangements are pending at this time.
A "send off" or "farewell tribute" will be announced within the next few days. People will be encouraged to gather throughout a specific route taken by the funeral procession. Full details including date, time and route will be provided soon. We are awaiting final determination of the National Cemetery Scheduling Office to determine his eligibility.
