Lea "Wren" Langley, 73, of Independence, Missouri, passed away on May 28th, 2024.
Born October 4th, 1950, in Yokohama, Japan, Wren was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughter and daughter-in-law, Wren and Diane Maddox-Faria, granddaughters Christina Maddox and Stephanie Soares, brother James Langley, sister Martha Langley, nieces Melanie Langley and Gina Beaudette, as well as great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, and her cherished cat, Ricky. Wren was preceded in death by her father and mother, James and Lyda Langley, and beloved nieces Amy Caudill and Jessica Marquez.
Wren attended the Maryland School for the Blind, where upon her graduation in 1970, she began working as a Medical Transcriptionist at the Maryland State Penitentiary, where she remained until 1972. In 1986 she accepted the position of Automation Specialist for the US Army Intelligence School, Fort Devens, Massachusetts, and in 1988 she transferred to Fort Huachuca, Arizona, where she continued her employment with the Department of the Army until 1998. Wren received numerous accolades for her exceptional performance throughout her tenure.
As a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Wren's steadfast and faithful spirit enjoyed the teachings and community of her faith, always willing to accept the callings of her fellowship.
Throughout her life, Wren had a profound love of music, compiling an impressive collection of albums and concert memorabilia. She enjoyed learning and playing musical instruments, and could often be heard singing along to her favorite Marty Robbins ballad. She was an avid traveler who excitedly embraced new places and experiences, and in her leisure time, she was known for knitting uniquely beautiful scarves and blankets for loved ones. Wren was a technology enthusiast, always eager to explore the latest devices and games.
Wren's first devotion was to her family and friends, where her generous nature, easy smile, and kind and loving persona were cherished by all. She was an adventurous, fun-loving spirit, whose sense of humor was rivaled by few. Her laughter was a joyous thing to behold. She absolutely adored all babies, taking every opportunity to shower them with snuggles and kisses, and every animal was her friend.
To know Wren was to know that you were loved without judgement or reservation, accepted without condition, and always welcomed with open arms. She leaves a legacy of kindness, grace, and inspiration, and Heaven was made more beautiful the day that she arrived.
Services to honor and celebrate Wren's life will be held on Saturday, June 1st, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 705 W Walnut St, Independence, Missouri. A viewing will be held at 1pm, followed by a funeral service at 2pm.
Donations to assist with Wren's services may be made directly to her family.
