Leatrice E. (Hindmarsh) Milne, of Braintree, a beacon of warmth and creativity, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2025, at the age of 97. Born on November 17, 1927, in Lorain, Ohio, she was the cherished daughter of the late William and Sophia (Brown) Hindmarsh. Leatrice's life was marked by a loving marriage to the late John Milne, Jr., and she was the adored mother to Meredith Crosby and her husband Michael, and Alison Jayne Foley and her husband Michael, all of Hanover.
Leatrice, affectionately known as Grandma to her grandchildren, will forever be remembered by Allison Crosby-Thompson and her husband Jamaal, Amy Crosby, Jessica Foley and her partner Jim Ellis, and Andrew Foley and his wife Ashlee. Her legacy will continue to thrive through her great-grandchildren, Alexander Thompson, Isabelle Thompson, Adelyn Foley, Emma Foley, and Amelia Foley. She also leaves behind several devoted nieces and nephews who were blessed to know her kindness and spirited nature.
A proud graduate of Quincy High School, Class of 1945, Leatrice's sharp mind and attention to detail led her to a successful career as a bookkeeper in the insurance industry, from which she retired after many years of dedicated service. Her professional achievements, however, were just one aspect of her multifaceted life.
Leatrice's passion for the arts was evident in her award-winning goose egg decorating, a unique talent that brought joy to many, especially during the holidays when her creations were in high demand. She was a founding member of the New England Egg Art Guild. Her artistic spirit also found expression in gardening, painting, and needlework. She was a talented seamstress and crocheter, crafting clothes for family and friends with both skill and love.
As a lifelong learner and adventurer, Leatrice found pleasure in reading and traveling. Her curiosity about the world was as boundless as her desire to explore it. Her leadership and nurturing spirit were exemplified through her many years as a Girl Scout Leader, where she guided young women with a gentle hand and an encouraging word.
Leatrice's enthusiasm for life extended to her love of puzzles and sports. An avid fan of the New England Patriots and the Boston Bruins, she shared many exciting moments with fellow fans and family members, cheering on her favorite teams. Her love for sports was paralleled by the joy she found in spending time with her family and friends, who were the cornerstone of her life.
Those who knew Leatrice will remember her as the epitome of loving kindness. Her vibrant, spirited nature was contagious, and she had the remarkable ability to light up a room with her presence. Her legacy is one of love, artistry, and an unwavering zest for life that touched all who had the fortune to cross her path. Leatrice's life was a tapestry of love, creativity, and service, woven with the golden threads of family, friendship, and community. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of those she loved.
The family wishes to thank those of Benchmark at Hanover who took such good care of both John and Leatrice. From the care attendants to the nurses to the servers in the dining room and other staff who were warm, compassionate and caring during happy and difficult times.
