Carol A. Mahan, of Weymouth and Holbrook, formerly of So. Boston, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer, with her beloved daughter by her side, at CareOne in Weymouth, at the age of 84. Born on December 27, 1940, in Boston, Carol was the daughter of the late Edward and Ada (Geary) Mahan. Her warm and affectionate presence will be profoundly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Carol attended South Boston High School and went on to dedicate many years of service as a skilled book binder for Winthrop Printing in South Boston. Carol was a vibrant presence, known for her loving, kind, and thoughtful nature.
Carol's passion for life was evident in her hobbies and interests. She was an avid player of Monopoly and Bingo, finding joy in the camaraderie and excitement of the games. She especially loved spending time with her family and having bar-b-que's, and her favorite food was shrimp scampi. Her love for television was unmistakable, with "The Golden Girls" and "Mike and Molly" being among her favorite shows.
In her later years, Carol became a beloved member of the CareOne community in Weymouth. Here, she was affectionately known as the "Social Butterfly," a testament to her ability to bring people together and make lasting connections. The last two years of her life at CareOne were filled with joy, laughter, and the companionship of wonderful caregivers and many friends, especially her nurse Beatrice.
Carol's legacy extends to her loving family, including her daughter Audrey Conley and her husband Paul of Holbrook, and her cherished grandson Shaun Conley. She was predeceased by her brothers Edward and Warren Mahan. Carol's memory will also be treasured by her dear cousins Rita Mallon McCoy and Tina Mallon Bell, dear friend Dorothy Conley, and many other devoted cousins, and her adored Granddog, "Cody."
Those who knew Carol often described her as warm, caring, affectionate, and kind. Her incredible spirit and the joy she brought to others were her most remarkable attributes. Carol's life was one of love and wisdom, and her memory will continue to inspire and guide those she has left behind.
As we say farewell to Carol, we celebrate a life rich in love and friendship, a life lived with grace and kindness. Her impact on the world was as profound as it was gentle, and she will forever be remembered for the light she brought into the lives of those around her.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a visitation period on Thursday, October 9th, from 9:00 – 11:00 AM in the Cartwright Funeral Home, 69 So. Franklin St., Holbrook.
