Lee Vernia Tyson

Lee Vernia Tyson of Garland, Texas, passed away peacefully in her home on January 16, 2026, at the tender age of 62.

She was born on March 4, 1963, in Terrell, Texas (Kaufman County), to the late Ray Tyson and Willie Vernisha (Bowie) Tyson. Lee graduated from Lakeview Centennial High School in Garland, Texas, in 1981. She delighted in working as a dietary aide at Christian Care Nursing Home, where she found great joy in helping and serving the elderly.

Lee's greatest joy was spending time with her family. Though she never had children of her own, she poured her heart into helping raise and care for her nieces, nephews, and their children. She was a steady, loving presence in their lives, and her influence will continue to guide them for years to come. Lee truly had a heart of gold.

She found happiness in the simple things, such as tending to her yard, cooking for the people she loved, and doing whatever she could to stay active. Even with the challenges she faced, she never let her disability define her or slow her spirit. When Lee cooked, she did so with abundance and intention, preparing meals as if she were feeding an army, always ensuring everyone was full, comfortable, and cared for.

Those left to cherish lasting memories include her seven siblings, Bobbie Marine of Sherman, Texas, Evelyn (Horace) Hawkins of Oak Point, Texas, Shirley Smith of Wylie, Texas, Aquilla (Amos) Oyelakin of Dallas, Texas, Arthur Tyson of Moreno Valley, California, Sebon Tyson of Los Angeles, California, and Willie James Tyson of Moreno Valley, California; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whose lives were brightened by her kindness and generosity.

She is reunited in peace with her parents, Ray Tyson and Willie Vernisha (Bowie) Tyson; her brothers, Ernest Tyson, Artis Tyson, and Marshall Tyson; and her sister, Willie Mae (Tyson) Johnson.

Lee's life was a testament to love, resilience, and devotion to family. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
