Lela Mae Wheeler, 82, of Eufaula, Oklahoma, peacefully passed away on August 18, 2025, at her home. Born on January 1, 1943, in Eufaula, she was the cherished daughter of Guy Bennett Phillips and Ruby Mae (Baker) Phillips.
Lela dedicated her career to serving the community; she retired from Fountainhead State Park, where she held the position of Park Ranger, and also served as a Reserve Police Officer. A devoted member of the Baptist faith, she attended Freewill Baptist Church and was an active participant in the Eufaula VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Lela is survived by her beloved husband, Larry Caldwell; her daughters, Sabrina Daniels and Carolyn Wheeler; two brothers, Tracey Wheeler and G.B. Phillips. Two sisters, Toy Phillips Henry and Shirley Ann Burwell—all of whom reside in Eufaula. She also leaves behind a legacy of love through her grandchildren, Beau Joshua Townley, John Wheeler, Matthew Wheeler, Bryan Wheeler, Natalie Wheeler and Kaitlyn Wheeler, as well as six great-grandchildren and twenty great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her late husband, Jimmy Wheeler; her son, Keith Wheeler; her sister, Ruby Jean Freeman; and her brother, Dale Phillips.
Lela Mae Wheeler's warm spirit and unwavering commitment to family and community will be treasured and remembered by all who knew her.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 23, 2025 at the Freewill Baptist Church of Eufaula with Pastor Ronnie Drake officiating. Lunch will be provided by the church at 11:30 a.m., all are welcome.
