Leland Stanford Evans Jr. of Rochester Hills, Michigan died on Tuesday, February 21st, 2023. Stan was active in his community and drove to work at his law office every day until a few weeks before he passed at age 90.
Stan Evans was born in Detroit on May 27, 1932 to Geraldine Brode Evans and Leland Stanford Evans Sr. The family resided in Redford, Michigan. He attended Detroit Country Day School (1949), Amherst College (BA, 1953) and Harvard Law School (LLB, 1956). He was on active duty in the U.S. Army from October 1956 to July 1958, working as an attorney in the office of the Judge Advocate General at Ft. Gordon, Georgia. Stan was a founding partner of Vestevich, Dritsas, Evans & Vestevich in 1972 and continued with the firm for over 50 years, now named Vestevich, Mallender, DuBois & Dritsas.
Stan was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Sharon Lee Evans. They were longtime residents of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He will be greatly missed by his two children Marjorie Killeen (Liam) and Jeremy Evans (Chris) and his four grandchildren, Nick Killeen, Emma Killeen, Andrea Smithhisler and Colin Evans, as well as Sharon's sons, Tom Berger (Terri) and Jim Adams-Berger (Sam), and their families.
Stan was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Birmingham, serving as a Deacon. A man of many artistic talents, he belonged to the Rosedale Community Players for over 50 years, playing lead roles in many plays including Mousetrap, Arsenic and Old Lace, 12 Angry Men and Proof. He enjoyed playing poker and golf and exercised every day.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Birmingham, 1669 W. Maple Road, at 1:30pm on April 15, 2023. A reception with light refreshments will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to National Parks Foundation (nationalparks.org) in Stan's honor.
