Lemuel Russell, 39, of Denver, CO, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at Denver Hospice.
A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, December 3, 11:00 AM at Holly Hills Bible Church, 2400 S. Holly Street, Denver CO 80222 Many have asked how they can help the family. Those folks would be very welcome to bring a covered dish or dessert to the potluck after the service.
Lem was born March 16, 1985, at St. Joseph Hospital in Denver, CO to James and Susan Russell. Lem was homeschooled, and enjoyed the Aurora Public Schools homeschool program called Options. He played several years of baseball with Eagle Sports in middle and high school. He also participated in AWANA Bible clubs for 12 years, receiving his Citation Award in 2004. In high school through the Options program, he entered the Pickens Technical College to study computer aided drafting (CAD). A year after graduating from high school, he completed a second year of CAD studies at Pickens, receiving Pickens Tech award of excellence and an academic excellence award at the Pickens graduation. During the same year he completed courses at Community College of Aurora to graduate with his Associate of Arts degree in 2005.
To complete his CAD program, he was hired for a trainee job with Utility Engineering. UE asked him to stay when they became Zachary Engineering. Thirteen years later, ZE granted him full work disability to fight stage 4 esophageal cancer. Lem's battle continued for five years and five months.
His 81 chemotherapy treatments in addition to brain surgery and radiation treatments helped the doctors gain more insight into the disease that took his life. During this fight he continued to enjoy fellowship with family and with friends from church. He helped his parents fix up the house they lived in during his fight against cancer. His brave efforts have encouraged many. We will remember his love of his family, travel, creativity, mountain hiking, 3 D printing, photography and movies.
Lem was preceded in death by three sets of grandparents: Hugh and Marion Lynch, Bob and Johanna Jones, Jack and Betty Russell, and nephew Ethan Russell. Lem was survived by his parents: James and Susan Russell of Aurora, CO, brother Nathaniel Russell and wife Sarah, nieces, Abby and Chloe, uncle Dennis Lynch and wife Denise of Parker, CO, aunt Donna Lynch of
Sterling, CO, uncle Rick Lynch and wife Ginny of Severence, CO, and uncle Brian Lynch and wife Donna of Brush, CO; fourteen cousins: Adam Lynch, Kendall Lynch, John Lynch, Jordan Lynch and wife Abbie, Jacob Lynch and wife Rita, Joseph Lynch, Kyle Lynch and wife Cesia, Derek Lynch and wife Erin, and Laura and husband Jorge Beltran.
Lem encourages everyone first to seek God, as He is the best companion on a tough journey in life, and second to give blood when you can. Donated blood makes life possible for those in desperate situations.
