Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lakeview Funeral Home - Chicago on Feb. 2, 2026.
It is with great sadness that family shares the passing of Lenore Glanz on January 28, 2026 at the age of 92. Lenore was born in Chicago to Leon and Mary (Shiverski) Glanz. She is survived by her sisters-in-law Susan Glanz and Carol Glanz and by many nieces and nephews: Jayne (Jeff), Tom (Sharon), Maryann (Howard), Steve, Matt (Eileen), John, Lisa, Mark (Jeanne), Michael, Jamie, Caralyn (Mike), Julie (Aaron), Chris, Jill, Jodie (Adam), and Patrick (Megan) and by many grand and great grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Leon and Mary Glanz, siblings Joan (Tom) Polishak, Dorothy Anderson, Jack, and Ed and niece Beth Anderson.
At age three, Lenore lost most of her hearing after a bout with measles. Despite this loss, her intelligence and drive propelled her to adapt by learning ways to understand others despite not receiving hearing aids until she was nine years old. Throughout her life Lenore was a voracious consumer of information through literature, education, discussion with others, and by exploring the world and other cultures through travel and immersion experiences. Her favorite daily routine of reading the Chicago Tribune and New York Times cover to cover kept her abreast of current affairs and she relished the opportunity to discuss world news and politics with others.
Lenore's love of education was evidenced by her quietly attaining multiple degrees: BS and MS in History and MS in Library Science at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and a PhD in History with a specialty in Legal History from Loyola University Chicago. She was the Head of Research for World Book Encyclopedia, Corporate Records Manager/Law Librarian for the Hyatt Corporation, and Researcher at the Kent Law Library. She was the 2005-2006 recipient of the Lifetime Achievement in Law Librarianship Award from the Chicago Association of Law Libraries. After her retirement she volunteered for many years at the Newberry Library doing research and archival processing in their Archival Collections.
Lenore appreciated receiving her bilateral cochlear implants fifteen years ago. She was not only able to understand others better when spoken to, but she could more clearly hear the music she loved at the Chicago Symphony and Lyric Opera productions, having been a long-time subscriber. When getting to the symphony and opera became physically challenging, the wonderful and talented choir at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church brought her great joy! She raved about the music at OLMC and would trudge through messy weather and physical discomfort to attend church and experience their choral music in person.
Lenore was warm, witty, honest, knowledgeable, determined, and delightful. She genuinely loved people, their cultures, and their individuality. She made family and friends smile with her avid correspondence by email, greeting cards, and Facebook! She loved spending time with family, friends, Lakeview community groups, law and alumni associations, and multiple book clubs, especially the Spiritual Book Club at Our Lady of Mt Carmel.
The Funeral Mass for Lenore will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 708 W. Belmont,
Chicago, IL on Saturday February 7, 2026 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will take place at the church from 9:30 AM until the start of Mass. Interment at St. Adalbert Cemetery will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials would be warmly welcomed to either "Our Lady of Mt. Carmel" (in the check memo write: OLMC Music Program) or to "Fair Oaks Health Care Center" (in the check memo write: For Staff Appreciation).
