Leo A. Petit, Jr., a cherished husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025, in Leland, North Carolina, at the age of 87. Born on June 30, 1938, in Chicopee, Massachusetts, Leo led a life rich in experiences, achievements, and love.

Leo graduated from Classical High School in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1956 and went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree from Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts, in 1959. His thirst for knowledge continued as he achieved a Master's Degree from Columbia University in New York. Leo proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1964, attaining the rank of Captain.

Professionally, Leo was dedicated to his role as a Hospital Administrator at Bladen County Hospital in North Carolina. His career was marked by numerous awards and accolades, reflecting his tireless efforts and commitment to excellence in healthcare administration.

Leo's interests were as diverse as they were passionate. He was an avid reader with a particular fondness for mysteries and non-fiction works. His athleticism was evident in his love for tennis, and he was a skilled cribbage player. As a consummate storyteller, Leo delighted family and friends with tales of his international travels and family adventures.

He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Leo and Sonya Petit, and his grandson, Oliver. Leo is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Sandra A. Petit; his daughters, Ann Petit and her husband Ben Thompson, and Joan Petit; stepchildren Don Staub and his wife Debbie McGuy, and Melissa Miller and her husband Craig. He leaves behind six grandchildren: Fiseha, Finnegan, Arlo, Solomon, Gideon, and Jonah. Leo is also survived by his brother, Robert Petit, and his loving Schnorkie, Puddles.

Memorial services for Leo are being planned at this time. His family invites all who knew him to celebrate the life of a man whose stories, humor, and wisdom touched everyone he met.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Leo's memory, please see link below.

His family has entrusted Leo's care to Wilmington Funeral and Cremation, 525 Village Road, Leland, NC 28451.
