Leonard Reid Rushing

Leonard Reid Rushing, 79, of Matthews, died Monday, August 12, 2024, at Autumn Care of Marshville, NC.
Leonard was born in Charlotte on August 5, 1945, one of ten children to Doll and Annie Belle Haigler Rushing. He grew up on the family farm bordering Mecklenburg County and Union County between Idlewild Road and Lawyers Road.
Blessed with skills to use his hands, Leonard learned and did many of the farm chores before he ultimately went to work for Acoustics of Charlotte, a dropped ceiling installer and designer. When not working, he loved to go fishing.
Leonard is survived by three children: Cindy (husband Mark) Greene, Kim (husband Gary) Mullis and Steve (wife Kim) Rushing; grandchildren: Katie (Byron) Haigler, Brandon Rushing, Seth (Stephanie Laney) Greene, Heather (Timothy) Benham, Garren (Marisa) Mullis, Brittany (Jason Greene) Upchurch, and Kamryn Rushing; and great grandchildren: Brycen, Brock, Chloe, Penelope, Tulsi, Beckett, Austin, Emma and Risten. He is further survived by his sister, Deborah Forbis of Matthews, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and 8 siblings.
Leonard's family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for him and for them. Visitation will take place from 11:30 to 12:30 on Friday, August 16, in the funeral home chapel, 4715 Margaret Wallace Road. After the visitation, all will take their leave and reconvene at the Evergreen Cemetery 11415 Bain School Road, Mint Hill, where graveside services led by Pastor Joe Query of Antioch Baptist Church will be held at 1 pm.
