Leota Alberta Dillon beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on Aug. 26, 2024, at the age of 106. Leota was born on April 3, 1918, to Edward and Cora Young just outside of Yankton, South Dakota. Her life was marked by love, creativity and resilience.
Leota was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 76 years, Rodney Dillon, and her sons Jerold and William Dillon. She is survived by her son, Linwood (Maureen) Dillon; her grandchildren Christopher (Natalie) Dillon, Tara (Joseph) Carlson, Kathleen (Peter) Knoll, Sheila (Matthew) Westberg, Amy Dillon and Stephanie Dillon; her great-grandchildren Dillon and Jake Carlson, Kylee, Libby and Grace Knoll, Whittney and Trent Westberg.
Leota's life journey took her from South Dakota to Florida and finally to Minnesota where she has lived the last 20 years. Her adventurous spirit was highlighted by a memorable moment in history: she had the honor of shaking hands with President Franklin D. Roosevelt while her father worked as a winchman on Mount Rushmore.
A gifted artist Leota found joy in painting, crocheting quilts and having meaningful conversations with friends and family. Her keen intellect and sharp wit remained with her throughout her life, and she continued to inspire those around her with her wisdom and warmth. Leota's legacy is one of love, artistic talent, and a life lived fully. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A private burial will be held at a later date.
