Leroy Junior Barthlow

Mercersburg, PA – Leroy Junior Barthlow, 95, of Mercersburg, PA and formerly of Williamsport, MD, passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Viva Senior Living in Hagerstown, MD.

He was born on July 13, 1930 in Hedgesville, WV to the late James William and Alvia Susan Butts Barthlow.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years, Lillian Elizabeth (Butts) Barthlow in 2019.

Leroy worked for H.L. Mills and as a grocery store clerk for 32 years until his retirement.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

A man of faith, Leroy was a member of Greencastle Church of God, and previously Williamsport Assembly of God. While able, he loved to serve, was faithful in attendance, and enjoyed reading his Bible.

An avid musician, he played guitar, mandolin, and fiddle and found great joy playing music and singing with his wife, family and friends at home, various churches, and in other settings.

Leroy loved family gatherings, had an unending sense of humor, and loved to laugh. He had a sweet tooth, enjoyed card games, and playing and watching baseball.

He is survived by his daughters: Loretta Mae Barthlow, Marilyn June Kunz, (and Robert Kunz) and Elizabeth Ann Green, (and Kevin Green); son: Dane Alan Barthlow (and Tami Barthlow); and one sister, Emily Susan Miller. Dearly loved as "Pappy" to 9 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren; and others who endearingly called him "Dad Barthlow" or "Uncle Leroy."

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Edward Wayne Barthlow; brothers James William, George Dennis, and Ralph Eugene; sisters Elsie Irene, Vesta Belle, Ethel Lee, Nora Virginia, and Maryann Louise.

The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home, P.A. 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD on Friday, August 22, 2025, from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. The funeral home will be open after 9:00 am on Friday for the convenience of family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at Airborne Church, 172 Creative Place, Martinsburg, WV on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 11:00 am with Pastors Kevin and Beth Green officiating. Burial will be private.
