Leroy Stanciel, born on May 19, 1943, in Madison, Mississippi, passed away on August 17, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky, leaving behind a legacy marked by service, determination, and love. He was a proud dual combat veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the United States Army and earning the esteemed Purple Heart for his bravery. After his military service, Leroy charted a path that reflected his entrepreneurial spirit; he became one of the first African Americans to own and operate his own sanitation company, showcasing his commitment to excellence and community service.
In addition to his successful career, Leroy spent many fulfilling years as a retired truck driver, cherishing the road, the adventures it brought, and the connections he made along the way. His vibrant personality and zest for life resonated with everyone around him; he was known to enjoy life to the fullest, relishing good home-cooked meals, listening to country music, and donning a fine pair of boots. He had a passion for breeding prized dogs and treasured the moments spent with his loved ones.
Leroy shared over 20 years of marriage with his former wife, Mary Mitchell, fostering memories that would remain a significant part of his life's tapestry. He is remembered fondly by his family, which includes his daughters Sharon Dooley (Micheal Hargrove) and Tara Thomas (Fabian Chandler), alongside his numerous grandchildren: De'Andra Dooley, Leroy T. Stanciel, Charles Edward Dooley, Jr., Thomisha (Jack) Davis, Michel'le Ponce, Shonessi Pugh, Terrance Herron, Trey Herron, and a host of loving great-grandchildren: Dion, Torez, Jr., Layla, Abigail, ARC, Talia, Isis, Maverick, Emersyn, Noa, Titan, and Sajata.
Leroy's passing is also marked by the memory of his son, Terrence Herron, who is deceased. His life's journey, marked by both triumph and loss, serves as an inspiration to those he left behind.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Leroy's life. The visitation will be held on Monday, August 25, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at C.A.
