Lester G. Hampton, Jr.

DOVER - Heaven gained a Loving Father, Pappy, Brother, Uncle, Soldier and Patriot when Lester (Les) Glenn Hampton Jr. peacefully passed on August 10th, 2025 at the age of 87. Les was the first of 7 children in Huntingdon, PA along the Juniata River where he grew up fishing, hunting, riding his bike, walking his dog, and enjoying his family and friends in Huntingdon and Mifflin Counties before joining the Army at 17 (after unsuccessfully trying at age 16). He served in US Army Europe in Germany with the 868th Field Artillery Battalion during the Cold War and would forever be a Patriot, proudly flying our USA Flag wherever he lived. After his Army Service, he moved to Lancaster County for work and married Marian Heller. He then had the great opportunity to work for Caterpillar and moved to Wrightsville and then York, PA to raise his family. As the oldest brother, he also did so much to help and support his siblings in their adult lives. He was truly a 'Big Brother' and Uncle for his family and a proud Father and 'Pappy' for his 4 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Les retired from Caterpillar and then returned to his roots near Mt. Union, PA where he enjoyed walking and time to watch his heroes like John Wayne and Clint Eastwood and cheer on his favorite Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Yankees and Penn State. When his health started declining, he moved back to York County in Dover, near his beloved daughter Linda and son-in-law Craig who were truly Angels in their care and love for him. The family would also like to thank the wonderful staff at Rest Haven for their 24/7 care for Lester.

Les was preceded in death by his parents, Lester G. Hampton (WWII Marine), Mabel Himes and Mary Folk; his brothers, Thomas (Army) and Ronald Hampton (Army-Vietnam) and his sister Betty Whitsel (Bob). He is survived by his beloved son COL Scott (Kristi) Hampton (Army) and daughter Seglinda (Craig) Smith; 4 grandchildren Jeremy Smith, Shane (Lexi) Smith, Maria (Matt) Wieters, and Dr. Kaia Hampton; 9 great grandchildren; brother Bill Hampton and sisters Patty (Mark) Cavill and Carol Flanagan.
