Lillian Ruth Overcast (Pug, Mom, Miss Ruthie), age 95, passed away in her home in Washburn, Texas on Saturday, December 14, 2024, with her kids by her side.
Mrs. Overcast was born on a farm near Wapanucka, OK to Clarence Williams and Laura Belle Williams (Mayberry) on August 12, 1929. At an early age, her mom and stepdad Bill Mayberry moved to Samnorwood, TX to work on a ranch. This is when her love for riding horses and working outside started. She attended school at Samnorwood where she met her true love, Melvin. After he returned from WWII, they were married a few days later on January 22, 1946. They spent over 75 years together working side-by-side and fully enjoying life.
During Ruth's life, she wore many different hats as well as home locations in Texas and Missouri. Her greatest joy was being an amazing wife and mother to her four children. She helped run their Borden's Milk truck in the Amarillo/Pantex area, moved to Missouri with her husband and three boys to be dairy farmers, worked at their butchering plant, obtained her real estate agent licenses, become a certified emergency medical technician, ran their insurance agency, won many medals in Senior Olympics, and an all-around "multitasker". Her kids always knew she was there for them with her Momma-Bear hat on when needed or in the audience watching them. Ruth loved others and always saw the best in everyone with a sweet smile that would light up a room. She was always ready to play dominos, watch old westerns, laugh at her dogs, or spend time visiting. In her later life, she loved going to "her office" to visit or read her book. She will be remembered for her positive outlook, determination, motivation, and caring heart.
She is survived by her son Dean Overcast (Cindy) of Cassville, MO; son Dirk Overcast (Deanne) of Isabella, MO; daughter Susan Overcast of Claude/Washburn, TX; and her Tim Wilson of Claude/Washburn, TX. She was blessed with grandkids, great grandkids, and great-great grandkids. As the "big sister", she is survived by her sisters Ladon Blasingame of San Angelo, TX, Pat Breeding of Shamrock, TX, Sharon Purdue of San Angelo, TX, brother Bill Mayberry of Whitefield, OK, brothers-in-law, Lloyd Stice of Wolfforth, TX and Bill Graves of Clarendon, TX, and sisters-in-law Juanita Overcast of Cedar Creek, MO, and Sharon Overcast of Huntington Beach, CA. Plus, many nieces, nephews, and friends who were like family to her.
Ruth is preceded in death by her husband Melvin Overcast, son David Overcast, grandson Lucas Overcast, great-grandson Colton Overcast, her parents, brother Dean Williams, sisters Oreta Graves, Shirley Stice plus special nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
During her life, Ruth always wanted to make sure others were taken care of and her family wishes to honor her memory by having a graveside service at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 17th, 2024, at the Claude Cemetery in
Claude, Texas.
