Riverside - Lillian L. Shaw, 68, passed away on April 20, 2024. She was born on December 1, 1955 to Leonardo and Dolores Spedale and grew up in the South Bay region, graduating from Hawthorne High School and attending El Camino College. Lillian started working for Culver City Police Department at 18, first as a meter maid and later as a switchboard operator. Her first career was as a police and fire dispatcher for Culver City PD and South Bay Regional Dispatch Center. She met Jim Shaw through work and they married May 12, 1984. The family moved to Canyon Country in 1989. Lillian could be found most weekends at craft shows, selling her many different creations. She was forced to take an early medical retirement from the job she loved. When her youngest daughter started school in 1995, Lillian went back to work. Her second career was as a teacher's aid at Sky Blue Mesa Elementary School. She retired from the Saugus Union School district in 2010.
Lillian loved working with kids and the community. She was active in many community organizations, including Girl Scouts, Optimist International, Canyon Country Little League, Canyon High School band boosters, Special Olympic, and the Red Cross. She led car seat safety programs and drives for many years around southern California. For over 20 years she help organize and run the SCV 4th of July parade.
She leaves to mourn daughters, Jennifer (Andrew) and Beth; grandson, Jacob; sister, Shirley; cousins Lynne and Larry; many nieces and nephews; and numerous friends. Lillian was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Services will be held Friday, May 31, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. at Grace Chapel, Inglewood Park Cemetery (720 East Florence Ave., Inglewood, CA 90301). In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Special Olympics Southern California or the American Red Cross.
