Obituary published on Legacy.com by Barnes-Friederich & Pope Funeral Home - Midwest City on Feb. 6, 2024.
On January 30, 2024, Linda Kay (Whitton) Hill of Edmond, OK entered into Heaven. She was preceded in death by her husband James Mark Hill, mother Robbie Katherine (Morton) Whitton, and father Paul Lewis Whitton, Sr. She is survived by her brothers, Paul Lewis Whitton Jr. and James Morton Whitton, daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Brian Creighton, son and daughter-in-law Michael and Jennifer Hill and grandchildren Abby, Sam, Kami and Nate.
Linda was raised in
Cross Plains,Texas, where she was active in the First Methodist Church of Cross Plains as an officer in the youth group and a pianist for the main services. She was also heavily involved in the Cross Plains High School's Buffalo Band. Linda graduated from Texas Christian University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education.
Linda and her lifelong love, Jim were married on June 8, 1968. Kathy was born in 1970, and Michael was born in 1975. In 1977 the family moved to Choctaw, OK and put down deep roots in the community. Linda was a teacher at Choctaw Elementary for approximately 30 years where she immeasurably influenced hundreds of children. She was twice recognized as Choctaw Elementary Teacher of the Year and was also awarded District Teacher of the Year.
Linda served her Christian faith through many works at the Choctaw United Methodist Church. She was Chair of the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee, a handbell choir member, served mobile meals, and was treasurer for the tight-knit KIHU Sunday School class. Jim and Linda were instrumental in the construction and opening of the new church building for Choctaw United Methodist Church in 2009.
Together, Jim and Linda were blessed to travel extensively throughout the U.S. and the world. Highlights of trips include Western and Eastern Europe, Russia, a cruise through the Panama Canal, Alaska, and a Lake Powell houseboat adventure.
Most of all, Linda cared about her family, and she was the centerpiece the family revolved around. She and Jim laid the foundation that supported a stable and loving home for Kathy, Michael, and the grandchildren. She was very thoughtful in the way she welcomed people into her home. Her kindness was natural and born from her selfless character. Too many to count warm and happy memories were made in their home celebrating holidays, birthdays or family events. "Cousins Camp" was a yearly week long event for the grandkids that was a particular favorite.
Linda was so devoted to her grandchildren that she honestly believed she was unbiased when assessing their talents, character and intelligence as the "greatest in the world." She was happiest wearing her mother's apron and placing many delicious dishes on the table for her family to gather and celebrate life and love together. Linda will be dearly missed.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb 17th at 10:00 AM at Choctaw United Methodist Church at 1200 N. Choctaw Rd. Choctaw, OK
