Obituary published on Legacy.com by Burns Funeral Home of Perry on Mar. 14, 2026.
With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Linda Ruth Mathis (King), a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and cherished friend, who left this world on March 13, 2026, at the age of 78. Born in
Altha, Florida, on August 20, 1947, Linda lived a life marked by love, generosity, and a passion for community.
As a general manager at Dollar General, Linda touched the lives of many during her years of dedicated service. However, her truest joy came from the moments spent with her family, especially "her girls," as she loved to call them. Linda had a unique ability to make every outing a cherished memory, emphasizing the value of togetherness.
Linda was a vibrant member of her local church, Crosspoint. In her first many years with the church, she and her husband were often found helping Aunt Frances and the cooking team. She loved peeling potatoes for chicken dinners at the crack of dawn with her church family. She often spoke about how much she loved having fellowship during those moments. Linda and Terry were there anytime the church doors were open. Her commitment to her church family was a testament to the love she embodied, always eager to lend a helping hand.
As a young woman, Linda proudly participated in a bowling league with her closest friends, where her competitive spirit and camaraderie brought smiles and laughter to those around her. She also had a passion for history, captivating those around her with fascinating stories and historical facts that sparked curiosity and wonder.
Linda and her brother, Tommy, were very close. She and her husband often made time to visit Tommy at his home in
Biloxi, MS. Often, Linda and Terry would make their way to the casinos in Biloxi during these visits. Linda could spend hours at a slot machine, while Terry would be over at a blackjack table.
Linda's love for shopping is presented in several different ways. She and Terry owned an Ebay store for years. Linda always chased after sales racks and clearance sections to ensure she would find the best deals possible. Linda and Terry would often attend auctions and enjoyed the thrill that came with never knowing what they would find.
In most recent years, Linda found immense joy in shopping from the comfort of her own home. She especially enjoyed "today's special value" on QVC and just had to tell everyone about it daily. It was one of many little quirks that made Linda who she was.
Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Ivy "Terry" Mathis; her children, Michael Scott Mathis and Leigh Anne Mathis Baron; her parents, Emma Pippin and Melvin Hamilton; and her siblings, Beth Pippin, Laurie Pippin, and Tommy King.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Courtney Folsom and Hannah Baron; and her great-grandchildren, Gracie, Ryleigh, Paisley, and Oaklynn, whom she loved dearly.
In celebration of Linda's remarkable life, family and friends will gather for a memorial service on March 16, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Crosspoint Baptist Fellowship in
Perry, FL. A reception will follow, where we will share stories, laughter, and memories in honor of a wonderful woman who enriched our lives.
Linda Ruth Mathis "Nanny" was the glue of this family. She will be profoundly missed but will remain in our hearts forever, as a guiding light exemplifying kindness, love, and the importance of family.
