Linda Sue (Smallwood) Moreland Spencer, born on October 9, 1954, in Louisville, Kentucky, departed this world on January 25, 2025. She leaves behind a legacy richly woven with love, compassion, and stability that touched the lives of countless children and families.
Linda spent her life being a safe and nurturing haven for those in need, lovingly earning the title of the “neighborhood mom.” For many years, she opened her heart and home as a foster parent, providing a warm embrace for those in need. Her unwavering support and guidance nurtured the young souls that crossed her threshold, creating countless cherished memories and lifelong connections.
She was not only a devoted mother to her three children, Jamie Moreland, Maria Spencer, and Jeffrey Spencer, but also an adoring grandmother to Lilly, Danielle, Evan, and Zack "Bubbers". Each grandchild brought immense joy to her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them, often delighting them with her love for Christmas, a holiday she held dear in her heart. She found great happiness in being a great-grandmother to little Liza, carrying on her legacy of love to yet another generation. Linda's family also includes her brother, Brian (Diane) Smallwood; her brother-in-law, Nathan Grimes; and sister-in-law, Fran Vogt.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, William Smallwood and Rita Napier Smallwood; her first husband, Charles Moreland; as well as her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Moreland; her brother, Michael Smallwood; and her sister, Paula Grimes.
As we celebrate Linda’s life, we remember her kindness, her generosity of spirit, and the countless lives she impacted through her unwavering commitment to providing love and stability. She will forever be remembered for the brighter days she brought into the lives of many, and the warmth of her heart will continue to shine brightly in the memories of those who knew and loved her.
