Lionel Wascom Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home - Hammond on Dec. 20, 2024.
Lionel Wascom, age 80, of Killian, peacefully passed away on December 18, 2024, surrounded by friends and family. He was a beloved brother, father, pawpaw, and friend to many. Lionel's greatest joy came from spending time outdoors with his sons and grandchildren and watching LSU sports with his Johnson Drive family. Lionel will be remembered as a true friend and a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life.
Lionel had a passion for hunting and fishing. He spent countless hours outdoors whether it was early mornings on the river or quiet afternoons in the woods. On the weekends he could be found napping in the swing or hanging out with his neighborhood friends. He was always ready to share a laugh, offer a hand, or simply enjoy the company of those around him. One of his most treasured routines was his daily "honeybun run" with Shai, his loyal companion.
Lionel had a kind heart and a spirit that drew people in. His love for his family, friends, and neighbors, was evident in everything he did. He leaves behind a legacy of friendship, kindness, and an appreciation for the outdoors that will live on in those who knew him.
Lionel is survived by his wife, Drusilla Wild Wascom; daughter, Sandy Wascom; sons David Wascom, Chad Wascom (Jennifer), Jody Wild (Missy), and Darrel Posey (Jessica); sister, Voncile Radley (Lance); brother, Elwood Wascom (Bobby), and grandchildren, Kristyn Palmer (Cliff), Landon Wascom (Sarah), Hayden "Hoot" Wascom, Ethan Wascom, Tanner Wild, Vick Tallia, Daniel Tallia (Amanda), Parker Posey, and Hudson Posey; great-grandchildren, Harley, Colston, Daniel, Asher, and Kaden; and many nieces and nephews.
Lionel is preceded in death by his parents, Nesom Dewitt Wascom and Christine Sibley Wascom; brothers, Fredrick Wascom and Murray Wascom; and grandson, David Allen Wascom.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation at Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, Hammond, on Sunday, December 22, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until the Celebration of Life at 12:00 p.m.
