Lisa Kay Marks, a beacon of joy and laughter, departed this Earth surrounded by love on Monday, September 9, 2024, in Iowa City, IA, at the age of 57. Born on Saturday, April 1, 1967, in Muscatine, IA, the daughter of Larry LeRoy and Nancy Kay (Ridenour) Zaehringer. Lisa's life was a testament to the joy and kindness she brought into the world. Her warm presence and infectious humor left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.
For the last 15 years, Lisa served the community as a beloved waitress at the All American Diner, where her bright smile and spunk became a staple. Before that, she was Head Food Nutrition Worker for the Muscatine Community School District, where her passion for hospitality started by feeding and caring for countless children.
Lisa is survived by her adored daughter, Tessa (Josh) Carlson of Andalusia, IL, who will carry forward her legacy of love and compassion. Lisa's spirit will also live on through her devoted brother, Scott Zaehringer of Muscatine, IA, and her loving nieces and nephew, Olivia (Dayne) Wadden, Kaylee, and Dalton Zaehringer. Lisa was preceded in death by her parents and both maternal and paternal grandparents, who instilled in her the values of kindness that she embodied every day.
Lisa's interests were a reflection of her nurturing soul. She loved to spend time with her Doodles who were always a part of the family. Her daughter was her pride and joy and she poured her boundless love into every moment with her. They loved bonding over their efforts in keeping their countless plants happy and alive. She had a great love for her friends, new and old, especially Roxanne Hintermeister of Muscatine, IA, who was like a sister and shared an incredibly special bond together. Her favorite way to enjoy time with her loved ones was to go window shopping for hours which resulted in love, laughter, coffee and a couple knick-knacks.
Memorials in honor of Lisa's compassionate spirit may be made to the Muscatine Humane Society, an organization close to her heart and reflective of her love for all living creatures.
Private interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Details will be announced when confirmed.
As we say bye for now, we take comfort in knowing that her laughter will continue to inspire and uplift us, her light will never fade from the lives she touched, and her memory will be a guiding star for those she leaves behind.
