Lloyd Miller Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Iles Grandview Park Chapel on Oct. 6, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Lloyd Arthur Miller Sr. Born June 28, 1939 - Iowa City, Iowa Passed October 3, 2025 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Funeral Services will be held at First Church of God, 4201 E. Douglas Ave, Des Moines, IA 50317, on Thursday, October 9, 2025. A visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 AM with a funeral service beginning at 11:00 AM.
Lloyd Arthur Miller Sr. was born on June 28, 1939, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Claude Gilbert and Esther Ellen Smith. He grew up with three brothers-Raymond, Wayne, and Robert-and shared a close bond with each of them. Lloyd attended Derby High School, where he played on the basketball team and began forming the values of hard work and camaraderie that would define his life.
Lloyd met the love of his life, Janette Ann Howard, on a blind date-a serendipitous moment that led to a lifelong partnership. While Janette finished school in Chariton, Iowa, Lloyd lived in Indianola, and their relationship blossomed across the miles. They were married on March 18, 1961, in Princeton, Missouri, and soon began building a family together.
After working on the pipeline, the railroad, and other jobs, Lloyd began his long career at John Deere in Ankeny, Iowa, in 1960, ending in retirement on September 28, 2001. He also worked a second job at Pinkerton for 17 years. Over the years, he and Janette lived in several places, including a farm on the edge of Des Moines, where they spent seven memorable years. Eventually, they settled on Capitol Avenue on Des Moines' East Side, where they shared 47 of their 66 wonderful years together.
Lloyd was a people person through and through. He loved watching crowds, engaging in thoughtful conversation, and connecting with others. He had a deep appreciation for old movies-especially detective stories-and enjoyed country gospel music and radio programs. He was always trying to solve the mystery before the story ended, guessing who the criminal might be.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Esther, and his brothers Raymond and Robert. He is survived by his brother Wayne, devoted wife, Janette, and their children: Echo Egbert, Lloyd Jr. (Marnie) Miller, Christopher Miller, Cyncecilia Miller, and Edward (Cathy) Miller. He also leaves behind a large and loving family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride.
Lloyd's warmth, curiosity, and love for life touched everyone who knew him. His legacy lives on in the stories he shared, the laughter he sparked, and the family he cherished.
