Lloyd Robertson

Lloyd Bain Robertson, age 101, passed away on the 7th of June in Dallas, Texas. The son of Lloyd Silas Robertson and Veasey Bain Robertson, he was born on April 14, 1922, in Carlisle, Arkansas. He grew up in Lonoke, Arkansas and went on to attend the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill graduated Phi Beta Kappa honors completing his undergrad and then his Masters in Geology from the Colorado School of Mines, Golden, Colorado.
Lloyd went on to serve his country in the Navy where he served in World War II on the USS Columbia and USS Gosselin, later retiring as a First Lieutenant through the Naval Reserves. Lloyd was extremely proud of his country, and was part of the Greatest Generation. His profound sense of service and dedication carried over into both his personal and professional life.
Post-war, Lloyd began his storied career in the petroleum industry and it was an exciting time of traveling adventures to new places, both foreign and domestic. He worked for various oil companies and had extended stints in Midland, TX; Eastern New Mexico; Bismarck, North Dakota; Melbourne, Australia; Lagos, Nigeria (General Manager-Mobil Exploration) and Riverton, Wyoming. He made lifelong friends along the way all over the world. It was in Riverton, working as the District Geologist for Mobil where he created some of his fondest memories in his working career. While surveying the geology of the area he was also sampling the area waters with his Orvis Battenkill fly rod. Here he developed a great passion for fly fishing as well as upland bird hunting and snow skiing.
Fresh air in the great outdoors eventually gave way to a new direction on his career path as well as in his personal life. Lloyd became an executive for Mobil Oil and moved to their headquarters in New York City. It was here that he met the love of his life, Barbara Joan Gibbs. They married in 1966 and settled down in Stamford, CT. In 1970, they had their first son John. Shortly thereafter, Lloyd was transferred to Mobil's new headquarters in Dallas, Texas. The family found a home in North Dallas and then their second son Andrew was born in 1974.
After a long and industrious career, Lloyd retired from Mobil Oil in 1982. Later that year, Lloyd & Barbara began searching for a Ranch for the family. The family settled on a 120-acre spread in Honey Grove, Texas. Lloyd enjoyed his retirement years watching sports, hunting, fishing, working on the ranch, and spending time with his two boys. Lloyd and Barbara also went on many travels around the world in the 1990's & 2000's with both family and treasured friends. Lloyd has been to every continent, across every ocean, and most places in between.
Their family called Oakbluff Drive home from 1971-2000. In 2000, Lloyd and Barbara down-sized and moved into their new home, which they called their "castle" on Araglin. John met his wife Michelle and they were married in 2011. Lloyd has three grandchildren; Mia, Liam, & Noah. Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife Barbara in 2021 and his late sisters, Mina Taylor and Martha Faye Stearns.
Lloyd was a remarkable individual, working on the ranch well into his 90's still driving and being independent up until he was 97. One of his other great passions was following the stock market trends and being a pioneer in the investment world. Lloyd worked hard, loved the fresh air and lived life to the fullest. When people asked Lloyd where he had been in his 101 years of life, he would fondly answer, "I've been up the river and back" which is exactly how he lived life; rolling with anything that came his way with a smile.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 17th at Lonoke Cemetery in Lonoke, Arkansas.
