Lois Anna Johnston, 98, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Fahrney Keedy Home and Village in Boonsboro, MD. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Born on Sunday, January 13, 1927 in Baltimore, MD, to the late Adolph R. Caloyro and Anne E. (Haines) Caloyro, she was one of two children and the apple of her father's eye.
Lois grew up in Pasadena, MD and graduated from Forest Park High School in 1946, where she was captain of the girl's field hockey team and played on the ladies bowling team. She was a woman of great faith and a member of Temple Baptist Church.
On October 9, 1949, she married Robert "Bob" Johnston and went on to have two girls and two boys. As a family, they moved to Hagerstown, MD in 1970, where Lois became an active member of the community as the Sunday School Director at First Baptist Church and Title I Parent Teacher Coordinator in the Washington County School system.
After retirement, Lois enjoyed traveling with Bob to their favorite vacation spots, including Ocean City and Myrtle Beach and spending every moment she could with her loved ones. She was well known for her hospitality and her unwavering dedication to those in need.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob of 64 years, and her brother Frank H. Caloyro.
Lois is survived by her children: Gail Patricia Johnston, Craig Stuart Johnston and wife Debby, Rev. Scott Alan Johnston and wife Michele, and Lori Ann (Johnston) Yacucci and husband Dr. Gregory Yacucci.
She is also survived by her grandchildren Keely Irene (Warfield) Pllana, wife of Flamur Pllana and mother to Yusuf Pllana, Cody Stuart Johnston, Tyler Scott Johnston, Ryan Alan Johnston, Sarah Elizabeth (Yacucci) Hoffman, wife of Nicholas Hoffman and mother to Harper Ann Hoffman, Gregory Theodore Yacucci, and Anna Rose Yacucci.
Services will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD with Pastor Joshua McClain officiating.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 10am with funeral service to follow at 11am.
Interment will be at Beaver Creek Cemetery, Beaver Creek, MD.
The family extends their gratitude to the Hospice of Washington County for their support and care over the years.
Memorial donations may be made to Hagerstown Church, 15 High St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.
