Lonita Helen (Mahaffey) Wehrly, 74, of Anderson, Indiana, passed away at home surrounded by
her loving family on Sunday, January 26, 2025, after a long battle with lung and heart disease.
She was born on July 23, 1950, to Charles H. and Dorothy H. (Driscoll) Mahaffey at Eglin Air
Force Base near Valparaiso, Florida.
She married Steve W. Wehrly on February 14, 1976. After which, they raised three daughters in
their Anderson home.
Lonita was a homemaker before going to work at Wendy's Restaurant for 17 years. Born with a
knack for nature and being outdoors, she enjoyed gardening in her flower beds. Being a
grandmother was one of her many joys. She was beautiful and had a great sense of humor.
Lonita was an excellent cook and lover of animals, always having pets in her home. Most of all,
Lonita loved her family unconditionally and would always put them first. She especially loved her
Driscoll family in West Plains, Missouri.
Lonita is survived by her husband, Steve W. Wehrly; three daughters, Jeanette (Mike) Case,
Stephanie (Luke Eberly) Wehrly, and Sybraina (Gabe Yattaw) Wehrly; four grandchildren,
Gracie (Kaleb Cortrecht) Addison, Cannon Case, Carson Eberly, and Evelyn Yattaw; three
sisters, Sylvia (Ron Beckerman) Mahaffey Colter, Roseanna (Keith) Metzger, and Rita Owen;
and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Dorothy (Driscoll) Mahaffey; a son,
Matthew Wehrly, who was born sleeping; mother and father-in-law, Delores and William F.
Wehrly; brother, Charles Mahaffey; brother-in-law, Richard Colter; and sisters-in-law Lorraine
Ross, Nancy Sexton, and Beth Wehrly.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 30, 2025, from 3-5 p.m. at Loose Funeral Homes &
Crematory, Anderson, Indiana, with funeral service immediately following at 5 p.m. The Wehrly
family would like to invite anyone to join them for dinner served in The Community Room at
Loose Funeral Home following the service.
Cremation will take place and she will be buried at a later date.
