Loren Bruce Kirby, age 92, of Kodak, TN passed away peacefully on August 17, 2025, in Jefferson City, Tennessee. Born on February 9, 1933, Loren lived a life marked by dedication to his country and community.

Loren was drafted into the United States Army on February 15, 1953. He completed his basic training at Fort Jackson in South Carolina and served as a Chaplain Assistant before transferring to the Ordnance Corps. During the Korean War, he was stationed in Pusan, Korea for 17 months and attained the rank of Corporal. His military service reflected his deep commitment to serving others—a theme that would continue throughout his life.

Following his honorable military service, Loren began working for the Greyhound bus company before joining the Sevier County Sheriff’s Department. There, he rose to the rank of Chief Deputy. Later, he transitioned to a full-time position with the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier for the Kodak Post Office. After retiring from the postal service, Loren returned to law enforcement with the Sevier County Sheriff’s Department as a Detective in the Street Crimes Unit. He continued this work until his final retirement in 2018.

Loren’s professional journey was defined by integrity and public service. Whether delivering mail or investigating crimes, he approached each role with unwavering dedication and compassion. During his retirement, he continued his hobby of woodworking and making furniture to give away at the Sevier County Sheriff's Department annual Christmas party.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Kirby; daughters, Robin Kirby and Dr. Carolyn Davis (Robert); grandchildren, Jessica Owens (and husband Sam) and Dusty (Traci) Smelcer; great-grandchildren, Jacob Owens, Sarah Owens, Dustin Smelcer, Emily Smelcer and Lindsey Smelcer; brother, Wayne Kirby (Sally); and several nieces, nephews, and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his son McKinley Kirby; parents Oscar and Ruth Kirby; and siblings, Afton (Virginia) Kirby, Lorraine (Reece) Denton, Annette (Jerry) Huffaker and Charlotte Kirby.
