Loretta Marion McVeigh, 89, a lifelong Berlin Township resident, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Sandalwood Creek Senior Community in Smiths Creek.
She was born in Port Huron, April 24, 1936, the daughter of the late Anthony and Lorene (Armstrong) Schmidt.
Loretta was a 1954 graduate of Yale High School. Her marriage to Franklin McVeigh was August 7, 1954, in Emmett. They were married for 53 years before his passing in 2007.
Loretta worked various jobs, including working as the Berlin Township Treasurer and a greeter for Kaatz Funeral Directors. She worked as a volunteer on the expansion of the Berlin Township Hall and fire department. She was a member and past president of the Berville Lioness Club. Loretta loved cooking and baking in her free time.
Loretta is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Franklin and Sue of Dexter, Wayne and Lori of Kimball, and Jim and Tammy of Atlanta, MI; grandchildren, Jeff, Pat, Jodi, Abbey, RaeAnn, Katie, Kathy, Nathen, Stephanie, and Peggy and 17 great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her sister, Betty and a brother, Anthony.
The family honors the memory of Loretta and invites you to visit and share memories Tuesday, August 26, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Capac. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday with 10:00 a.m. visiting. Pastor Joe DeHass, Chaplain of Harmony Cares Hospice, will officiate. Burial will be in East Berlin, Cemetery.
