Loretta R. Young, born on November 17, 1939, in Taylorsville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully in Louisville, Kentucky, on June 9, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She lived a life rich with love and dedication, leaving behind cherished memories for all who knew her.
Loretta dedicated nearly 20 years of her career to Brown and Williamson in Louisville, where she made many lifelong friends and contributed to the company’s success on the belt line. Her colleagues admired her work ethic and the kindness with which she treated everyone around her.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Loretta was an avid cook and a talented crocheter, often spending her time creating delicious meals and beautiful crafts. She valued the moments spent with her family and friends, and these gatherings were the highlights of her life. Her warm spirit and generous nature endeared her to many, as she always took great joy in nurturing those she loved.
Loretta is survived by her loving children: Lorra (Sue) Bailey, William (Bill) Saunders, Bryant Saunders, Cheryl Herring, Gregory (Scott) Saunders, and Kimberly Saunders. She shared her life with a supportive sisterhood, including Joyce Roberts, Earl Dorothy Miller, Bonnie Saunders, Barbara Phillips, and Katie Roberts, and she was also the beloved sister of Hugh Roberts, Jr. The legacy of her nurturing extends through her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who will dearly miss her.
Loretta’s memory will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of calling her family and friend. She was preceded in death by her son, Nathaniel Saunders, her father, Hugh Roberts, Sr., and her mother, Dorothy Cochrane. Additionally, she was preceded in death by her sister, Glenna Taylor, and brothers Dorney Roberts and William Thomas Roberts.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Loretta's life at a visitation on June 15, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a memorial service beginning at 3:00 PM. Both services will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, East Louisville, located at 235 Juneau Dr, Louisville, KY 40243.
Loretta R. Young leaves a lasting legacy through the lives she touched and the love she shared. She will always be remembered for her unwavering strength, generosity, and the warmth she brought into the lives of those around her.
