Loricel Sambo Champ, beloved daughter, wife, sister, cousin, and friend, passed away on June 18, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unshakable devotion to family and faith. She was born on August 10, 1983, in the Philippines.
Loricel lived a joyful and adventurous life. She had a deep love for traveling, relaxing by the beach or lake, and sharing meals with loved ones. She especially enjoyed game nights with family and friends. Apples to Apples was her favorite, and her quick wit often made her the undefeated champion. Karaoke, bowling, and board games brought out her bright, competitive spirit, and her laughter was contagious.
Though far from her family in the Philippines, Loricel stayed closely connected through frequent FaceTime calls, always making her nieces and nephews smile with her goofy faces and loving presence. She was the eldest sibling, a natural leader, and a constant source of encouragement and care.
Loricel was a biologist, and she worked for ATCC. She was a devoted member of the Families in Christ Jesus Community (FCJC), participating in monthly meetings and attending national gatherings each year. Her strong faith shaped the way she loved and lived with generosity, compassion, and joy.
In her earlier years, Loricel was a member of the Philippine National Taekwondo Team, showing determination and discipline in all that she pursued. In quieter moments, she found happiness watching her favorite shows 90 Day Fiancé and Love & Hip Hop and enjoying one of her favorite meals, baby back ribs.
Her love story with Kevin Champ, her devoted husband, was a beautiful testament to destiny and determination. Though separated by thousands of miles, she in the Philippines and he in Virginia, their bond transcended distance. They met online, fell deeply in love, and built a marriage rooted in trust, laughter, and mutual admiration.
Loricel was preceded in death by her beloved parents, the late Cancia Sambo and Loreto Sambo. Loricel is survived by her loving husband, Kevin Champ; her brother, Lorence Sambo (Aprilyn); her sister, Lorilyn "Karla" Guevarra (Mark); and Kevin's dear aunt who treated her like a daughter, Katherine Washington (Willie). She also leaves behind her cherished cousin LJ Malabanan, mother-in-law Betty Champ, sister-in-law Talia Jackson (Gilbert), sister-in-law Rainbow Harrison (Nathan) and niece Amber Champ.
She will be dearly missed by her five aunts: Marcela Capulong, Susana Macoy, Filomena Malabanan, Melecia Delantar, and Silveria Barrion; and her many first cousins: Ramil Capulong, Richard Capulong, Rowell Capulong, Analyn Macoy, Juliet Agcang, Herminia Abucay, Edeliza Marasigan, Veronica Sumang, John Malabanan, Jonalyn Malabanan, Jeffrey Barrion and DJ Barrion.
