Lorna Lee Hoffman, 79, passed peacefully in her home, the morning of October 28, 2024. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family, friends, and caregivers during the last days of her life. Lorna was born on July 15, 1945, to her parents, Olin and Margaret (Bickford) Norris. They lived in Ames, Iowa.
While attending Ames High School, Lorna was an active member of the marching band, where she excelled as a saxophonist and graduated in June 1963. Lorna went on to further her education at Iowa State University, and American Institute of Business (AIB) in Des Moines, Iowa.
Lorna married Philip C. Hoffman on December 2, 1967, lived in Des Moines, Iowa, and had two children, Craig and Stacy.
Lorna's employment started at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator, transitioned to Patterson Law Firm as a legal secretary and at Iowa Comprehensive Human Services. She then worked for EMC Insurance Company as a word processing operator for nearly 20 years and retired on January 2, 2018.
Her favorite memories were spending day trips with her beloved husband, Philip, visits to Crosslake, Minnesota, being taken out for family dinners, and getting a Dilly Bar at Dairy Queen. Lorna was an avid fan of Iowa State football and basketball, loved watching Elvis's movies and listening to his music, and taking early morning walks with her dog, Wrigley.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Olin and Margaret (Bickford) Norris; and husband, Philip C. Hoffman.
She is survived by her son, Craig Hoffman; her daughter, Stacy (Scott), Gohlmann; and step son, Mark Hoffman; grandchildren, Courtney (Clinton) Christensen, and Darr (LeAnna) Hoffman; and great-grandchildren, Caylynn, Colton, and Charlee Christensen, Aaden Hoffman, Troy Herndon, and a little bundle of joy due in December 2024.
Lorna will be deeply missed by all her family, friends, and all that knew her. Her memory will live in our hearts forever.
A private family service will be held November 9, 2024.
