Loula Frances Conques

Loula “Lou” Frances Conques, 84, of Schertz, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2025. She was born to Paul and Edith Solomon on February 17, 1941, in Roxboro, North Carolina, where she was raised in a large and loving family.

Loula was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings—Corrine Logan, Polly Weddle, Mary Jane Parks, Shirley Hamlett, and Sammy Solomon. She is survived by her sister, Victoria Clark, as well as her beloved husband, Duane, and their five daughters: Danielle Conques, Camille Sassman, Nicole Leucht, Colette Davis, and Caresse Lyons. Her legacy continues through her 14 cherished grandchildren and one great-grandson, all of whom brought her immense pride and joy.

After graduating from Roxboro High School in 1959—where she was a basketball player, homecoming queen, and head cheerleader—Loula went on to earn her degree from Appalachian State Teachers College in 1963. She devoted 35 years to teaching elementary school, touching countless young lives in Hampton, Virginia; Universal City and Schertz, Texas; and Randolph Air Force Base.

Loula’s greatest adventure began when she met Duane in 1965. Their meeting was unexpected, but their love was immediate. Just weeks later, they shared their first date on November 20—a moment that would come full circle exactly 60 years later. Duane proposed on their second date, and Loula happily accepted. They were married on June 11, 1966, at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia.

As a military spouse, Loula embraced a life shaped by service, resilience, and adaptability. She lived in three states and abroad in Thailand and Germany, traveling to nearly 20 countries along the way. Her time in Thailand took place during the Vietnam War, when she managed the family and home while Duane was away. Over the course of their military life together, Loula shouldered long stretches of independence, spending nearly six years on her own as Duane fulfilled military duties both in the United States and overseas.

Three years into their marriage, Loula and Duane welcomed the first of their five daughters. Ever devoted, she was an exceptional wife, a steadfast military spouse, a beloved teacher, and the steady heart of her family. Known for her warmth, determination, and adventurous spirit, Loula touched countless lives and was deeply loved by her family, friends, and former students.

She is now at peace, leaving behind a legacy of love, sacrifice, and strength that will be felt for generations.

Visitation will be held at Schertz Funeral Home in Schertz, Texas, on December 13, 2025, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.
