Lyle John Franzen, 89, of
Gothenburg, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2025, in his hometown. Born on April 4, 1936, in Gothenburg, Lyle spent his entire life rooted in the community he loved and served with unwavering dedication. Lyle was a man of deep faith and tireless work ethic. He co-founded Franzen Inc., where he worked as an electrician and HVAC and appliance repairman. Known for his skillful hands and problem-solving mind, he became a trusted "fixer" of everything-whether it was a broken appliance or a neighbor's need. His commitment to excellence and service left a lasting mark on both his profession and those who relied on him.
A devoted follower of Jesus, Lyle was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. His faith was not only personal but also lived out through service; he trained and served as a Parish Ministry Associate to support people and congregations beyond his own. He knew that he was saved by grace through faith in Jesus-a conviction that shaped every aspect of his life.
Lyle's commitment to his community was demonstrated by serving on the Gothenburg Volunteer Fire Department for an extraordinary 54 years, offering his time and energy to protect and support his neighbors. His leadership extended into education as well where he served on the Gothenburg School Board for 12 years, helping shape the future of local students. He also served his country by volunteering for the National Guard.
Beyond work and worship, Lyle found joy in reading, gardening, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Whether hosting gatherings or lending a helping hand to neighbors or loved ones, he embraced life with kindness, gentleness, and generosity.
Lyle shared 66 years of marriage with his beloved wife Arlene (Gronewold), building a life centered around love, family, and faith. Together they raised their children with care and devotion. He is lovingly remembered by his sons Gary (Trudy) Franzen, Timothy Franzen, and David (Becky) Franzen; daughter-in-law Ruthie (Doak) Ostergard; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy. His grandchildren include Aaron (Tina) Franzen; Lucas Franzen; Alex (Karen) Franzen; Grace (Kel) Franzen; John (Janysha) Franzen; Amy (Christian) Strader; Nency (Victor) Lopez; Nereida Romero Meduena; Ellie (Sean) Seams; Jacob (Shane) Franzen; Joshua (Franchesca) Franzen; Brady Franzen; and Parker Franzen. His legacy continues through great-grandchildren Jase, Jackson, Piper, Kennedi, Sophie, Oakley, Geo, and Aria.
