Lyman Wayne "Wayne" Letchworth

Mr. Lyman "Wayne" Letchworth, 78, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2025

The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 AM in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 AM until the funeral hour and at other times at his home, 2726 Lester Mills Road.

Wayne was a lifelong resident of Pitt County, graduating from Winterville High School. After high school, he served in the U. S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. Wayne retired from the Pitt County School Bus Garage as a mechanic. He enjoyed tinkering on all sorts of small engines, from lawn mowers to golf carts. In later years, he learned how to play the guitar and even built several guitars. He liked to say he was a jack of all trades, but a master of none. Wayne loved riding his lawn mower and tending to his yard; learning new skills from Youtube videos, and most importantly, spending time with his family.

Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Reel Letchworth; parents, Lyman and Dorothy Letchworth;

He is survived by his daughters, Monica L. Purvis and Vanessa Parker McKinney and husband, Art; grandchildren, Seth Parker McKinney and Kayla Dawn Purvis; brothers, Johnny Letchworth and wife, Lorrie, Kenneth Letchworth and wife, Sheila, and Mike Letchworth and wife, Lisa; and a number of nieces and nephews.
