Our beautiful Mom was the courageous leader and matriarch of our small yet precious family. She grew up an only child to two doting parents in Akron, Ohio. As a child, she was often found sitting in a tree, reading books for hours. She became a gifted writer of fiction, short stories, and poetry, winning awards for her work. She loved her three children and grandchild, and taught them to be independent forces for good, to love the natural world, and to always stand up for what they believed. She read them all the best books and took the time to encourage them to think for themselves and be creative. When she entered a room, with her mane of striking red hair, you couldn't help but notice. She was a force of nature, a talented writer, avid reader, a brilliant mind with a vocabulary like no other. She loved nature, the arts, fine wine, travel, hikes, and yoga. She lived her life with an unsurpassed bravery. She was an activist and supporter of women's rights, a founding member and past president of the National Organization for Women (NOW) in Akron, an advocate for equal rights, social justice, and the environment. She had a generous and kind heart, never forgot friend and family birthdays, and gave even to strangers. Her favorite place to be, was her cabin in the woods with her husband. Most of all, she loved her family, including her devoted husband and loving partner of 46 years, Steve Allen of Akron, Ohio; beloved children, Justin Kmet (Mesha) of San Francisco, CA, Tiffany Kmet (Shaun), Canton, Ohio, and Arwen Kmet of Columbus, Ohio. And finally, she treasured her granddaughter, Kaya Kmet-Zwick of Columbus, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her adoring parents: Marie G. (Holt) and Herman L. Broach. She was also survived by four grandchildren by marriage, she was a cherished cousin, and friend to countless others.
You leave a big hole in our tiny family. You were incomparable and irreplaceable. Thank you for being such an amazing Mother, partner, and teacher. We will miss you and love you all the days of our lives.
The family is holding a private remembrance/celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Summit Metro Parks: https://foundation.summitmetroparks.org/donate-in-memory-honor

Dear Steve, Justin, Tiffany, and Arwen,
I was shocked to learn only today of Lyn´s passing. I don´t know how I missed this although I think I can blame it on political activism.
Although we have not been in touch for some time Lyn was a large presence in my life for several years. Apropos of her love of books we first met at the bookstore where I was manager in 1974. We immediately connected with our mutual involvement in the women´s movement and the effort to pass the Equal Rights Amendment. Lyn convinced me to attend the first Cleveland International Film Festival and brought me into the exciting installation of Judy Chicago´s Dinner Party in Cleveland Heights. I will always treasure our time together, the dinners, the movies, the friends, and the protests.
With Love, Daryl

To Steve Allen: I saw the obit on the computer. First, my condolences to you and your family. I knew you and Lynn back in the late 80s/early 90s. I used to visit your house on Buchtel Ave. I met you guys at the old Sarah's Deli in Akron. Your wife truly was a gal with lots of interesting qualities. I briefly met Tiffany when she studied Dance at UA. I would see her on occasion in Guzzetta Hall. Anyway, again, I am sorry for your loss and your wife was so wonderfully unique.
