Jerre Lynne Hudson Massengill, 71, loving wife of Paul Massengill, Jr., passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family. Born in Memphis, TN to the late Gerald M. Hudson and the late Betty Rae Scott Hudson.
She began her career as a Respiratory Therapist at Saint Francis Downtown and then at Baptist Easley Hospital, where she dedicated herself to helping others breathe more easily and live more fully. Her journey in healthcare continued as she became a registered nurse and earned her certification in critical care nursing to join the Medical ICU at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Her compassionate care and attentive nature made a profound impact on countless lives.
Lynne was known not only for her professional dedication, but also for the boundless creativity she brought to every aspect of life. With a firecracker spirit and mischievous sense of humor, she expressed her artistic side by painting river rocks, thoughtfully hiding them all around for others to find and cherish, ensuring her vibrant presence lingered in the hearts of those who stumbled upon her treasures. Her talent extended beyond painting. She taught herself the intricate art of quilting, crafting beautiful pieces with love, which were lovingly given to her family as tokens of her affection. She loved to "play in the dirt," especially when it came to growing roses. Before her disability, on any day off, you could find her in the yard caring for her roses and other flowers.
A member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Greenville, SC, Lynne's faith inspired her to serve others selflessly. She embodied the nature of a true servant's heart, always willing to lend a hand or offer a listening ear. Lynne cherished the time spent with her family, embracing her roles as a great mom and grandmother with unwavering devotion.
Traveling brought Lynne immense joy, particularly her cherished adventures with her husband and close friends to St. John in the US Virgin Islands, where they created lasting memories together amidst the sun-kissed shores and vibrant landscapes.
In addition to her husband of 52 years, she is survived by daughter, Carrie M. Frost (Will); sons, Paul "Tripp" Massengill, III (Lauren Minors) and Scott Massengill (Michelle); three grandchildren and sister, Lauren Van Pelt (Bobby).
A private service will be held at a later date to honor Lynne. A separate Celebration of her beautiful life will follow.
Lynne's legacy is one of love, creativity, and nurturing spirit. Her memory will forever remain etched in the hearts of those she loved and served, and she will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
