Mabel Gertrude Chapman was born November 22, 1937, to Benny Clifton and Willie
Mae Miles in Dallas, Texas. The family moved to Los Angeles, CA when she was a
young child. Years later, she made the decision to move her family to Austin, TX, to take care of her grandparents John and Olivia Hardeman. She worked in the cafeteria at LL Campbell Elementary School, then moved to The University of Texas at Austin, where she became the supervisor over the Bakery in Jester Hall, until she retired August 31, 2003.
Mabel found the Lord at an early age and lived a lifestyle that reflected a deep belief in
God, and she was devoted to raising her family. She became a member and attended
Mt. Zion faithfully until her health began to fail. She loved to cook and bake and was the happiest when she was preparing meals for her family; Holidays were her specialty, she would cook the entire meal for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years singlehandedly for her ever-growing family. During Summer breaks she kept the grandkids, then later in life the great-grandkids, taking meal orders like a short order cook, giving each of them what they wanted to eat for dinner. She also enjoyed taking them to the park to play and swim, or going to Target to eat Churros, then to McDonalds. She never said no to babysitting. She also loved animals; she had a soft spot for them, and would take in two or three at a time.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband of 30 years Issac E. Chapman,
her sisters Leatrice "WeeTee" Green, Doris Abernathy, and Louise "Bennie" Miles,
brother Robert Miles all of California.
She leaves to mourn her, 2 sisters: Fannie Rose Turner of California, and Mary Ann Miles of New York. Her 4 children: daughters Donna Louise Schuler(Walter-deceased), Terri Yolanda Waddle(Wilbert), Ricky Wardell White(Barbara) all of Austin, TX, and daughter Grace Ann Green(Harold – deceased) of Killeen, TX, 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Mabel showed much love to everyone and will forever be missed, but our memories of
her will never fade away. Love you Mom!
