Mabel Ellen (Effinger) Moore of Dover Delaware, passed away October 21, 2025.
She was born January 5, 1933, in Morrisville, Bucks County, Pennsylvania to the late Joseph Christian Effinger and Mabel White Effinger. She grew up on the family farm in Morrisville where she spent her childhood and learned the value of hard work and family. Mabel graduated from Fallsington High School, Fallsington, Pennsylvania.
As a young adult she moved to Delaware when her parents purchased a farm on Barratts Chapel Road, Frederica, Delaware. It was at that time that she began her career at Playtex working as a secretary. She met and married David Moore, Jr. and began her life as a wife and mother. As her children grew, she opened her own beauty salon which was a great source of pride for her.
Mabel loved spending time outdoors enjoying such hobbies as hunting for antique bottles and arrowheads. The arrowhead collection was started by her mother and she carried on the tradition hunting on her own after her mother passed. The collection of arrowheads was later donated to the Zwaanendael Museum in Lewes, Delaware. She also loved camping and cherished the memories made around campfires with family and friends under the stars.
For a large part of her adult years one of Mabel's greatest passions was painting. Her favorite medium was oil paint from which she captured the beauty of nature and created works of art that included her favorites, waterfowl and local birds in their natural habitats.
Mabel, once retired, took on two volunteer jobs, one delivering Meals on Wheels in Kent County as well as a volunteer for Hospice in Kent County, both of which she thoroughly enjoyed.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, David Moore, Jr., one sister, Esther Effinger Fairbrother and two brothers, Joseph Effinger and George "Micky" Effinger.
Mabel is survived by her children, Betty McAllister (Mark Aytch) of Warwick, Maryland, David Wayne Moore (Dani) of Camden, Delaware, and Ricky Lee Moore of Dover, Delaware; her grandchildren, Lauren McAllister Conlon, Chase McAllister, David L. Moore, and Christian Moore; and her great grandchildren, Colton Conlon, Caleb Conlon, Ryan McAllister, Landry McAllister, Savannah Conlon, Julian Moore, Layne Moore and Landen Moore.
Funeral services will be held 11 am Friday, November 14th, 2025 at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, Delaware. Friends and family may gather one hour prior. Interment will be held at Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton, Delaware.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Mabel's memory to Hospice, Kent County, Delaware; Meals on Wheels, Kent County, Delaware; or Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
