MADELEINE JOHNSON

Madeleine Revaz Johnson was born on October 8, 1932 to Swiss immigrant parents Louis and Odile Mayencourt Revaz in Detroit, Michigan. She grew up alongside her older sister, Odette, speaking and singing in French at home until the girls entered public school where they added English and quickened the family transition into American culture. Madeleine attended St. Theresa's through high school where her vivacious spirit and a bit of serendipity led her to crash a college dance where she met the love of her life, Fred Johnson. Madeleine graduated from Marygrove College and within a year she and Fred married to make a life together.

The growing family welcomed children in New York and Virginia, moving on to Indiana, Tennessee, and South Carolina. Madeleine welcomed 3 daughters and 3 sons and loved every minute of being their mother. She often marveled over their differences and celebrated each one for being a unique presence in the world.

Wherever she lived, Madeleine brought laughter and music. She sang at home, in churches and community choirs, and on road trips of every kind. Over the years, Madeleine collected new friends and treasured old, embracing new experiences and laughing to the point of tears. She was an extraordinary life force, moved by her faith, her personal convictions, and her free spirit.

Madeleine was an exuberant life partner and friend, mother and grandmother, breathing joy and humor and empathy into every relationship of her life.

Madeleine passed peacefully on February 28, 2026 in Seneca, South Carolina in the company of her devoted husband and children, surrounded by love.

Madeleine is survived by her husband, Fredric Moyer Johnson; children, Susan Johnson (Gerard Schuster), Paul Johnson (Debbie), Margaret Pearson (David), Amy Johnson (Larry Hazlehurst), Fred Johnson (Michele Lease), and Steve Johnson; 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 9:30am Friday March 6th, 2026 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. The family will receive friends on Thursday March 5th, 2026 from 4:00pm to 6:00 pm at Sandifer Funeral Home. Condolences and memories may be expressed online by visiting www.sandiferfuneralhome.com.
