Major Tommy Dennis Neatherlin, U.S. Army, (Ret.), a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and esteemed Army veteran, passed away on October 14, 2024, in Abilene, TX. He was born on October 11, 1933, in Sweetwater, TX, to Charlie C. and Margaret Elizabeth (McDonell) Neatherlin. Tommy dedicated his life to his God, his family, his country, and his career.

Tommy graduated from Newman High School (Sweetwater High School) and attended Texas Technical College (Texas Tech University) in Lubbock, TX, graduating with a BBA in Economics and Finance and was commissioned 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army upon graduation.

After proudly serving in the Army for twenty years, including three tours in Vietnam in the Special Forces, and achieving the rank of Major, Tommy transitioned into civilian life and found success as the Distribution Manager at American Classified. His dedication and hard work were evident to all who knew him in the classified ads industry.

Tommy is survived by his loving wife, Gaylon McKelvey Neatherlin of 25 years, his daughters Gretchen Neatherlin-Yates and husband Scott, and Heidi Ball, his sister Mary Ann Vause, his grandchildren Kenna & Chris Virt, Sean & Veranika Ball, and his great-grandchildren Hadley & Trace Vert and Sia Ball.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at the Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate Tommy's life will be held at 1:30 pm, Thursday, October 24, 2024, at the Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd., with his nephew, Eddie Chrane, officiating, followed by a military burial at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest with full military honors.

Tommy's legacy of his unwavering faith, loyalty, strength, and love for his family will forever be cherished and remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Charlie Neatherlin, siblings, Charlene Wilson, Gwin Neatherlin, Charlie Wayne Neatherlin, and Dovie Finley, and his grandson, Corey Ball.
