Malcolm Haith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sharpe Funeral Home, Inc. on Dec. 5, 2022.
On Saturday, December 3, 2022, Mr. Malcolm Salis Haith went to rest peacefully in the comfort of his home.
Malcolm Salis Haith was born in Morgantown, NC on January 20, 1941, to the late Eunice Morgan Haith and Vaxton Salis Haith. He loved and married Beverly Michelle Newman Haith and was the incredible father of four.
In his early years, he attended Jordan Sellers High School where he excelled in athletics, academics, and graduated with honors. While in high school, he was selected to participate in a summit at Fayetteville State University at which young students of color were spearheading efforts to tackle inequalities and systemic factors that worked against them. This summit influenced social movement and resistance in the fight for Civil Rights. In his nature of achieving, Malcolm came in second in the Drivers Ed. Rodeo as the only Black participant, despite his family not owning a car. In fact, Malcolm purchased the first car his family would own when he graduated college. Having earned both Football and Academic scholarships, he advanced his education by attending Kentucky State College. He later transferred to North Carolina Central University where he completed his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Chemistry.
He was disciplined with a thirst for knowledge and loved a challenge, leading to a long and rewarding career as a chemist. Malcolm started his work journey at Cone Mills in Greensboro and was the first Black chemist they employed. In his next career move, he took a position at Burlington Industries as a Senior Chemist and Plant Superintendent. He retired from Stockhausen where he did extensive work in textile polymers and wrinkle resistant technology. He is an owner of several patents and had a number of his works published. While highly decorated with achievements, this didn't stop Malcolm from concocting his own cleaning products, famously touted in his family household.
Malcolm was an explorer and never stopped learning. He was an avid sports lover and enjoyed playing golf in his later years. Above all, Malcolm cherished his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Beverly Michelle Newman Haith. Four children: Maurie S. Haith of Arlington, VA, Salise M. Haith of London, UK, Malcolm N. (Lee) Haith of Washington, DC, and Matthew H. N. (Caitlin) Haith of Durham, NC. Two siblings: Hunter (Amie) Haith of Greensboro, NC, and Vondra (Terry) Jones of Mebane, NC. One grandchild: Krystal S. Haith of Greensboro, NC. Two Great-Grandchildren: Kristopher and Kairo of Greensboro, NC and a host of relatives and friends.

Dear Beverly and Newman-Haith Family,
We are so very sorry for the loss of Malcolm. When we moved here over thirty years ago, you all very quickly became family to us. Malcolm truly "fought the good fight" on so many levels and in so many arenas, he has "finished the race" and "kept the faith". Praise God. Love you all.
