Malcolm David Worthy

Malcom D. Worthy, (84), of Lake Worth, Florida, passed away on August 9, 2023, at the age of 84, surrounded by his loving family.
Malcom also known as Dave or Mick by family members was born in Pavo, Georgia, and raised in Miami, Florida where he graduated from Miami Edison High School. Afterward, he joined the U.S. Navy and served his country on a submarine. After is service in the Navy, Malcom relocated to Reading, Pennsylvania, where he worked as a machinist, but continued to serve in the U.S. Navy reserve. As he made his journey in life, Malcom pursued his passion in flying, and earned his licensed as a small air craft pilot and flight instructor. Malcom was a very skilled and calm man and pilot who dealt well under stress, which was proved to be an invaluable trait, as documented in a news story in the Reading Eagle about when his airplane's landing gear failed once, and he was forced to land without it. Malcom was also a kind and considerate man who gave back to his community by donating his time, especially to the Salvation Army, where he volunteered to clean up the grounds on a weekly basis, as his way of thanking them for flying him home to Miami where he was in the Navy to attend a family member's funeral many years ago.
Malcom is survived by his three children, Elizabeth, David (and daughter in law Lisa) and Lisa (and son in law David). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jason, Brian, Jarred, Morgan and Rachel. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia and brother Frank. Malcom was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Allene and his brother Gerold.
To his family, Malcom was a father, grandfather, mentor, educator and protector and friend. We also fondly remember our father as intelligent, free spirited, good hearted with an incredibly great sense of humor. As his circle of life became smaller, his appreciation for his family, good humor, and the basic elements of nature remained. Malcom was a very stoic man but in the last years of his life he was able to show a softer side of himself, which was embraced by his family as it gave us more appreciation for all he had done for us growing up, and wisdom in caring for him in the same supportive and tender manner he showed us.
Malcom's family is awaiting information from the United States Veteran's Administration regarding his burial in the National Cemetery, which will be posted in the future. The family would also like to send a special thank you to the care givers in Malcom's life including Hospice.
