Manuel Alvarez Villegas, 80, of La Porte, IN, passed away on August 18, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Manuel was born on September 13, 1944, in Los Vela Momax, Zacatecas, Mexico, to Nemecio Alvarez Diaz and Natalia Villegas Sandoval.
On August 24, 1977 in Momax, Zacatecas, Mexico, he married Maria Hermelinda Robles who survives. Also surviving are his son, Oscar (Carmen) Alvarez of La Porte, 2 granddaughters, Jessica Marie Campion and Maria Christina Alvarez, both of La Porte; grandson, Oscar Emilio Alvarez of La Porte; 10 great-grandchildren from La Porte and Granger; 2 brothers, Nicolas Alvarez of East Chicago and Jose Hector Alvarez of Hammond; 6 sisters, Consuelo Contreras of CA, Rosario Rodriguez of CA, Maria Alvarez of CA, Ramona Contreras of CA, Rosa Flores of CA, and Gloria Alvarez de Pinto of Zacatecas, Mexico; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Manuel worked as a landscaper, which he greatly enjoyed, but his greatest joy was the time he spent with family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren always knew they had a listening ear and great supporter in their grandfather.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 25, 2025, at Holy Family Parish, St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
A time of visitation will be from 2 - 7 p.m. on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
