Obituary of Marce Ellyatt
Marcelina Ynostrosa Ellyatt, also known as "Marce" by her loved ones, peacefully passed away April 14, 2023 in Salinas, California. Marce was born October 27, 1941, in Los Angeles, California. She enjoyed watching Dodgers games at the stadium, so much that her father overheard her one time on the radio cheering for her team in the stadium. Marce attended Gonzales High school where she was a part of the student government; she graduated in 1960. While growing up she learned that money did not grow out of the ground. Hustling and inventing ways to make money with her friends, knowing the value of where money came from, it is a known fact that she worked hard for her keep. She grew up having little to work with, but in the end, her humbleness carried her a long way. Marce was able to fulfill her dream of owning a business entitled "The Rose" where she created beautiful and unique bouquets of flowers, personally designed, and delivered to her customers in the city of Salinas. After closing her business, she and her husband bought a home in Prunedale, California, where she spent the rest of her life.
She was funny and would like to tell jokes, but she was also the most kind and caring person you would meet, she would never leave anyone out or behind. She liked to hear about what her children, grandchildren and their families all had going on and would always be the first to support them in any endeavors or ideas that they had. Taking care of her family and being an emotional link was a pleasure to all connected with her. Marce would always leave her door open to anyone and would encourage and allow those who entered her home to stay as long as needed; she always enjoyed company. She liked to talk sports and had her favorite teams, but she would also root for your team if hers wasn't playing- that's just the kind of person she was. It's no question she looked forward to socializing with everyone, anywhere she went and felt blessed anytime she could be with her family at gatherings and events. She would always shine her pearly whites and brighten up the room with endless, positive comments and motivational messages.
She enjoyed going to "the show" to watch her action or comedy films while also enjoying her box (or bag) of popcorn. She would never turn down going out for a bite to eat at a restaurant and you could almost always catch her eating ice cream afterwards. Marce would enjoy her late nights and would use her quiet time as her devotion to prayer and to the Lord. She was a faithfully devout Catholic and attended church regularly. She donated to many non-profit organizations and would support all causes. Anyone who knows her, knows she would always show honor in lending a helping hand or an ear. She would say a prayer for you and if you were lucky enough to pray with her, you would experience such a calming and spiritually moving moment; you could tell her relationship with the Lord was genuine. To relax, Marce could work you in a game of Scrabble, she could outrun you on the shore of the beach and dance around you to all types of genres of music. Marce enjoyed all holidays, but she especially enjoyed holidays where her family could be present such as New Year's Eve, Easter, 4 of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas. She celebrated birthdays with a phone call and visit to you in her Toyota 4Runner, she loved traveling around. If she was inside, she'd have you sit down with her and watch some television, like professional sports, America's Funniest Home Videos, Touched By an Angel, or CSI. She used to crochet and loved feeding the birds on her deck and watering her plants and flowers.
She had time on this Earth, and she did not waste any at all. Her family filled her heart and was her sacred treasure. She never liked seeing bullying, disagreements or hollering; she wanted peace within her home, family, community and wanted peace for all of her family and friends. Not only was she a wonderful Spouse, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Godmother, but she was also a great friend and mentor. She is survived by her Spouse, Gary, Daughters, Francine and Lanette as well as preceded in death, Nicole. In addition, her Grandchildren, Jessica, Michael, Corey, Ashlée, Wyatt, Celine, Great Grandchildren, Kaily, CJ, Emma, Anabella, Johnathan, Ethen, Bodhi, Kayden, Kolton, Lucas, Brantley, Olivia and her two beloved dogs, Sparky and Savannah. We take comfort in knowing she is reunited with her parents, Socorro and Valentine, her siblings Rudi and Marie, her daughter Nicole and other close family and friends.
The viewing will be from 10a – 12p followed by a mass on Friday, April 21, 2023, at 12pm at Our Lady of Refuge Church in Castroville, California.
Burial will be held at Queen of Heavens Cemetery at 2pm in Salinas, California.
We will then be gathering afterward at Casa Sorrento Pizzeria, 393 Salinas Street, Salinas.
