New Jersey State Police Trooper II Marcellus E. Bethea passed away suddenly in the line of duty on Sunday, May 5, 2024. Born in Edison, NJ. Marcellus was 33 years old and a resident of Florence, NJ. He grew up in Columbus, NJ, and graduated from Northern Burlington Regional High School in 2009. In 2013, he graduated from Rowan University with a Bachelor of Arts in Law and Justice.
Marcellus was a devoted husband to Katarzyna, a loving father to Bella, a beloved son of Sheila and Walter, and a brother of Darrus. His love and dedication to his family were unparalleled. He leaves behind grandparents Emma and Isaac Tucker, his paternal grandmother Virginia Bethea, mother-in-law Beata Duda, brother-in-law Tom Duda, sisters-in-law Marlena Duda and Ewelina Zalewski.
Marcellus' passions were deeply rooted in faith, family, and service. He held a profound love for the Lord, which guided his actions and relationships. Marcellus was an avid fan of the New York Giants, finding joy and camaraderie in cheering for his favorite team alongside friends and family.
Throughout his career, Marcellus exemplified courage, integrity, and selflessness, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and the community he served. His commitment to duty and unwavering dedication to public safety not only left an enduring impact on all who knew him but also made his community a safer place. Marcellus will be profoundly missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, and colleagues. His memory lives on through the lives he touched and the values he upheld. May he rest in eternal peace.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday May 15, 2024, at Mary Mother of the Church Parish located at 45 Crosswicks St., Bordentown. Calling hours will be held Tuesday afternoon 3:00 ~ 7:00 pm and Wednesday morning 9:00 ~ 10:00 am at the church. Burial will follow at Holy Assumption Cemetery, Roebling NJ.
