Marcellus C. "Marc" Schapker, 96, of Evansville, passed away Saturday, September 7, 2024 at the Linda E. White Hospice House.
Marc was born on February 28, 1928 in Evansville to the late John and Anna (Seib) Schapker. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and participated in the first Honor Flight of Southern Indiana. Marc was a founding member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, a member of American Legion Funkhouser Post 8 and the Knights of St. John. Marc worked for Whirlpool Corporation in Quality Control before retiring in 1989. In retirement, Marc volunteered his time at the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry; participated in events at SWIRCA, the Evansville War Museum, Westside Improvement Association and the Senior Olympics.
Surviving Marc are daughters, Mary Janelle (James) Musick, Nancy (Raymond) Pritchett and Diane (Brian) Christensen; son-in-law, Mike Strader; a sister, Barbara Dassel and brother, Jerry Schapker. Also surviving Marc are his grandchildren, Dr. Dan (Laura) Musick, Andrew (Rachel) Musick, Tim (Jessica) Pritchett, Laura Pritchett and Megan Pritchett and great grandchildren, Max, Bella and Sam Pritchett, Charlie, Tillie, and Harry Musick, and Gabe Schleter.
In addition to his parents, Marc was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Minnie (Striegel) Schapker in 2013; by a daughter, Sharon Strader and brothers, Irvin, Arthur, Sylvester, Paul, Oliver, Jim, Alfred and John Schapker.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Rev. Bill Nicholas officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 until 7:00 PM on Wednesday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and from 9:30 AM until service time on Thursday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 5528 Hogue Road.
Memorial contributions may be made to Corpus Christi Catholic Church, St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry or to the Evansville War Museum.
