Margaret Agatha Catanzano, 85, passed away on August 13, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri. A visitation will be held from 12:30-1:30 p.m. on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Iles Dunn's Chapel in Des Moines, Iowa. A graveside service will follow at Resthaven Cemetery.
Marge was born on July 9, 1940, in Harris, Missouri to Noel and Dorothy (Meeker) Scott. She lived most of her life in Des Moines. Marge was the epitome of love, kindness, and devotion. She was married to her beloved husband, George Catanzano Jr., on August 2, 1959.
Marge's greatest passion was her family. A devoted mother and grandmother, she took immense pride in her role as "Nana," and nothing made her heart fuller than spending time with her children and grandchildren. Known for her warmth and gentle spirit, Marge had a special way of making each person feel loved and cherished. She was always ready with a smile, a helping hand, and a listening ear. Her family will forever treasure her words, often spoken to her grandchildren: "I love you longer."
In addition to her family, Marge had many hobbies that brought her joy. She was a skilled crocheter, a lover of the casino, and a passionate teacher. She delighted in teaching her grandchildren how to make Christmas cookies, homemade raviolis, and delicious wandas; creating memories in the kitchen that will live on for generations. She was also known for her artistic talents, which she shared generously with those around her.
Marge had a special bond with her nieces and nephews, who affectionately called her "Aunt Gathie." She loved seeing the kids in their Halloween costumes and was always there with her signature lipstick, never leaving home without it. Her creative spirit shone through in the thoughtful homemade Christmas gifts she gave each year, which were eagerly anticipated by her loved ones.
Marge is survived by her children: David Catanzano, Debbie Sandquist, and Carol Catanzano; grandchildren: Willy Schwartzman, Christopher (Samantha) Grimm, Jerehmy (Jessica) Sandquist, Jennifer Sandquist, Miranda Ballard, Joshua (Christine) Robben, and Nicole (Ryan) Langemach; 19 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her fur baby Gracie.
Marge was preceded in death by her parents; husband George Catanzano Jr.; son, George Catanzano III; grandson, Anthony Catanzano; daughter in-law, Glenda Catanzano; sister, Charlotte (Buck) Malloy; brother, Max (Donna) Scott; and her fur baby, Rocco.
Memorials in Marge's name can be made to her family to be used for a cause special to Marge.
