Ms. Margaret Marie Gwynn Coalson, 72, of Ararat, VA, passed away Thursday afternoon, January 16, 2025, at her home. Ms. Coalson was born March 13, 1952, in Patrick County, VA, one of eleven children born to the late Andrew Franklin and Letha Jane Hiatt Gwynn. Margaret retired after many years of dedicated service at Lynn Hosiery. A lifelong member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Margaret found strength and community in her faith. She also attended Mount Bethel Moravian Church, where she enjoyed the fellowship and spiritual growth it provided. She is survived by three sisters, Julia Ann Gwynn Barr, Mamie Gwynn Smith, and Ruth Gwynn Corn; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and special friends, David and Janie Dawson. In addition to her parents, Ms. Coalson was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Gwynn Allen, Catherine Louise Gwynn, Brenda Kay Gwynn, and Elsie Gwynn Hiatt; three brothers, George C. Gwynn, William “Bill” Gwynn, and James “Jim” Gwynn; four brothers-in-law, the Rev. Junior Corn, John Barr, Clarence Smith, and Roby Hiatt; and her lifelong companion, Ida Gwynn Edwards. The funeral service will be held Sunday, January 19, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Steven W. Corn officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at the funeral home.
